With the warm weather coming up, we’ve got one thing on our mind - getting our summer bod. And that means hitting the gym. But working out doesn’t have to be a chore, YYC has a ton of cool workout studios that make fitness fun. Say goodbye to suffering through your sweat sessions. Check out these can’t miss fitness trends to kick your motivation into high gear. Whether you’re a gym rat or a fitness newbie, there’s something for everyone.

Boxing

Boxing is hotter than ever, and this intense, full body workout delivers. A favourite of supermodels Gigi Hadid and Adriana Lima, you can burn up to 700 calories an hour in the ring while sculpting toned arms and rock-hard abs. It’s also a great way to get out your aggression. There are more places than ever to lace up your gloves in YYC. A handful of new boxing gyms have recently opened including Rumble and UNDRCARD. And don’t worry, you don’t have to hit anybody or get hit - most studios offer non-contact boxing classes.

Barre

You don’t have to be a ballerina to get that lean and toned body. This heart- pumping fitness trend combines ballet, yoga, and pilates. It’s a fun way to build long, lean muscles and increase flexibility, balance, and endurance. Expect to burn between 250-500 calories an hour in these muscle blasting classes. There are countless classes and studios to try this must-do workout including Barre Belle, Barre Body Studio, The Sweat Lab, and many more!

Rowing

Rowing is quickly becoming the newest fitness craze, threating to kick spin to the curb. While it may look like nothing more than a low-key, sit-down workout that only targets arms, it’s everything but. Rowing is a killer total body cardio workout that engages your core, back, arms, and legs. Even at a moderate pace, rowing can burn around 200- 300 calories in a 30-minute session. Indoor group rowing classes are cropping up all over Calgary. You can get your row on at Row 17, Fit Republic, and Movement U.
