Not even three years into his career as a radio host for Calgary’s popular alternative station, X92.9 and Tyler Middleton has already become a household name in this city. What’s even more impressive than that is the fact that only five years ago, Middleton was just completing his degree in Radio Broadcasting at Humber College in Toronto.
With his exemplary combination of broadcasting and humour, the radio host has garnered national attention, too. This spring, the morning show host was also awarded the Allan Waters Young Broadcaster of the Year award during Canadian Music Week 2016 in Toronto, further adding to his impressive resume. Needless to say, he’s come a long way in a short amount of time.
With a part-time hobby of doing stand-up comedy, Middleton is definitely a likeable listen throughout the work week. Himself, along with X92.9 morning co-host, Chris Lynch (Lynch for short), are all about having fun in the early hours of the morning. Whether you’ve seen him run an “awkward Uber car service” that saw him picking up miscellaneous people on their way to work; heard him chat candidly on-air with the “Trivago Guy”; or just poke fun at listeners when they call in to win a contest, you’ve likely broke out in laughter.
The jokes that his fans enjoy day-in-and-day-out certainly don’t end there. Middleton also has a publicly undying love of fellow Best of Calgary award winner and Global Calgary weatherman Jordan Witzel which he often displays on-air and via X92.9’s social feeds (https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=319Ib5FUr2k), as well as once on Global Calgary when he surprised him while reporting live at Calgary Olympic Park (http://globalnews.ca/video/2485707/tyler-middleton-from-x92-9-surprises-jordan-witzel-at-cop).
With a unique personality and the ability to make just about anyone laugh (that’s a harder skill than you may realize), it’s no wonder why this young man has found a spot in the radio limelight.
